At this year’s Bamenda Community Challenge, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a masterclass conducted by Sinet Akih, a distinguished Cameroonian product marketing manager, innovator, and community leader. Sinet has a proven history of developing significant products, including the Nang Health App and BitSika. As the founder of Jappcare Autotech, he brought extensive knowledge and practical experience to the session, enriching the participants’ understanding of product management and innovation. This year, 125 participants took part in the challenge, organized into 10 teams of 5 members each. Each team engaged actively in the masterclass, applying the lessons in real time and gaining valuable mentorship throughout the session.

Diving into Business Models

In his session, Sinet broke down the concept of business models, demystifying how startups and established companies generate, deliver, and capture value. He guided participants through popular frameworks such as the Business Model Canvas, explaining how tools like these help entrepreneurs clarify customer segments, revenue streams, and key resources.

He emphasized the importance of designing models that are adaptable, reminding participants that the most successful businesses in Cameroon and beyond are those that continuously evolve in response to market realities. One takeaway that resonated strongly with the audience was his advice:
“Your business model is not set in stone; it’s a living strategy that should grow with your users.”

Understanding Product Marketing

Moving from structure to strategy, Sinet turned the focus to product marketing, a field where he has made his mark across Africa’s digital technology ecosystem. He explained the crucial role of positioning products in the market, defining unique value propositions, and aligning marketing strategies with the real needs of customers.

Participants learned about key product marketing KPIs such as user acquisition, retention, and conversion rates. Sinet shared case studies from his professional journey, showing how metrics like these helped him measure success and make data-driven decisions. His storytelling made complex concepts relatable, transforming technical jargon into actionable insights for early-stage entrepreneurs.
